They are members of American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg. Ed likes to camp, do woodworking, crafts, and cooking.
They began square dancing in 1966 but had to drop out for a year. then graduated with a square dance class in 1968, under the teaching of Jess and NEll Miller of North Platte. Ed began calling in 1970. They attended callers college under the instruction of Dick and Ardy Jones. of NY. in 1970..Funds for this was provided by the National Convention that was held in Omaha in 1968.This was a real gift for all the callers who probably otherwise would not have able to afford to attend. Ed calls and teaches mainstream and plus and cues rounds ph 1 to 3. He has called at State Conventions and several Nationals. Ed has been a member of Callerlab since 1976 and helped to organize the Ne. State Sq and Round Dance Assoc., the Western Area Federation, and the NE. State Callers Assoc. They attended International Legacy and along with Dick and Jan Brown and Paul and Darlene Goodman organize Prairie Conclave which is the only one of its kind still in existence, even with the Inter. Legacy being disbanded. This is an accomplishment of which he is very proud.
Ed is also a member of Western Ne. Callers Council, ,an organization not real active right now but still organized. Also they are charter members of the Camp n Dancers 073 and upcoming Pres of that club. Ed is club caller for 4 clubs and calls on a regular basis in NE. KS, CO. and S.D. He loves to introduce square dancing to students and for the last several years has taught students in the Valentine area, in connection with the Valentine square dance club and the camp dancers in connection with the Old West Days.
Ed believes that a lot of times square dance friends are almost closer than family and likes to promote square and round dancing as a good family entertainment as well as an economical form of entertainment.. It is a great way to slow down and smell the flowers. The friends we have made throughout our fun activity are priceless to us and our family.
